Tiefling Application

Character's Full Name:Deirdre Yurick
Character's Nickname: Deirdre

Short Description:
Deirdre is a tiefling with half-elven and diabolic blood. At first glance, she seems like a half-elf woman with a sharp stare appears in her late twenties or early thirties. She is 5'6" (160cm) and has narrow shoulders and a slim waist. She has a fair skin tone, black eyes, black hair and acute features. However, she has a few features that give out her heritage:

Tiefling Traits:
(1) Her hair randomly grows into feathers, and back to hair:
One of the first things to notice about her is her hair: It seems messy and festive. It is decorated with black feathers. She tried plucking and cutting them, but they grow back. Fortunately for her, the feathers and the hair are exactly the same color, so it may be difficult for others to discern at low light areas. Deirdre justifies it that she likes adding feathers extensions to her hair. Beside, the feathers have a tendency to turn back into hair eventually, so her head is mostly full of black hair with a couple feathers in between. The hair refuses to be brushed or combed neatly. The best she can do is to tie it, but then the feathers stick out. So she has to keep her hair loose and brush her hair whenever possible.
(2) Second, the pupil of her eyes changes shape based on light:
In low light areas, the black pupil dilates to abnormal sizes. In total (or almost total) darkness, her pupils fill the whole cornea. Contrary, in brightly lit areas, the pupil contracts till it becomes a small dot or speck. Deirdre has no way to hide that, other than avoiding eye contact in dimly or brighly lit areas. Fortunately for her, at normal light levels, her cornea/pupil ratio are average. yet any sharp light from a reflected surface could cause her eyes to change.
(3) Third, she has black feathers that sprout from her shoulders, upper back, and lower neck:
Usually she covers them with thick clothing. So it is not a problem for her.
(4) Fourth, she is unnaturally light, as she weighs only 60 lbs (26 kgs):
While she has a small frame (narrow shoulders and slim waist), her low weight does not allow her to jump higher or run faster than other people of her health and age could (OOC: this is due to NWN mechanics).
(5) Fifth, her shadow shows a silhouette of a humanoid bird.
Usually a strand of hair sticks out to look like a beak, the rest of her hair falls downward to appear like the bird's neck, and no matter what she is wearing, the shadow of her arms/sleeves, or cape appear like bird wings. To view the bird silhouette requires a high Spot skill, and some degree of imagination.
(6) And sixth, she can communicate with carrion-eating bird of prey, such as vultures, raptors, crows, and ravens.
She does not do so in front of people, though.

Source of fiendish blood:
Deirdre is a high generation tiefling with Erinyes blood. her powers are a mockery of Erinyes' powers: While the fiends can fly, have feathered wings and prehensile hair, Deirdre is simply low weight, has feathers on her shoulders and hair, and hair that refuses to be coiffed or brushed.

Education:
Upon speaking to her, it is clear that she has lived in major cities most of her life. She is also moderately versed in the arcane art (self-taught). She never had any formal teaching, but she can speak Elven (due to her half-elven parents) and through dreams and visions, she learned Infernal.

Clothing and demeanor:
She dresses in dark colored clothes, mostly black. She usually walks gracefully and quietly without a sound and does not unnecessary attract attention (except when the baby she carries with her is crying or playing).

Immediate Family:
Usually she is seen carrying a human baby on her back in a soft leather baby-carrier. The baby looks normal and healthy for a six months old infant, except that he is leathery skin with a faint reddish color and really long claws. He is a tiefling, too!
(OOC Note: The child is a tiefling with faint pit lord blood. If the child survives and reaches adulthood, he will grow into a giant (at least 8' or 244cm) with elongated limbs, with glowing red eyes, and will smell like brimstone).

Background:
Born to in a simple family in a small village (near Crimmor in Amn) to a pair of half elven parents mother. The parents were ashamed of their daughter's heritage. The father was always cruel and severe with her, much more than her siblings. She was constantly being hid in a small room, with only a rag doll to keep her company. Several times it would take up to 2-3 days without food. Outside of home, life was worse. She was forced to cover her hair and shoulders most of the time and was not allowed to socialize for long. She had cuts and bruises practically all the time, since her father was a practitioner of physical punishments.

Beliefs Instilled in her mind:
several of Deidre's siblings died one after the other, all violently: one fell from a tree and broke the neck, one got ran over by a chariot, one drowned in the river, and one got mauled by a bear. This drove the parents to start paying homage to Beshaba, the Maid of Misfortune. Because her fiendish features appear like a crow or a raven, Deidre's parents were convinced that she is an ill omen, or an omen of misfortune.

Re: Tiefling Application

Turning Point in Life:
Eventually by the age of 10, she was tired of the abuse and fled home in the middle of the night, taking with her best friend: the rag doll. Not looking back, she came to a big city of Crimmor in Amn. She resorted to stealing, pick pocketing, and begging for survival, until she got recruited into one of the local gangs. A few years later she became very good at it. She learned to break into houses, pick locks, steal contents, and leave unnoticed. Her light weight allowed her to scale walls easier than others.

Life in the Big City:
Life was tough, when the heat got too high on her, she had to keep a low profile and she resort to perform odd jobs. One of them was to dig up fresh corpses from the graveyard for a thanatologist.
A couple years past by and she met a handsome knave. After a long love-hate relationship, she fell in love with him. The boyfriend did not care for her anymore than a passing interest and a chance to release his carnal desires. On the contrary, Deirdre, like most tieflings, was faithful, trusting, and loving for life, but in a bad way. She was extremely jealous, controlling, and possessive. One night she saw him talking to another girl in the pub, so she stalked her home, slit her throat, and informed him that she saw the girl getting mugged by muggers and did not help her. She told him that she will not let another woman take him from her, and she will be with him forever. Disgusted, he tried to walk away or break up, but was too afraid of her. Unknown to her, he was bidding his time.

Fall into Servitude:
The boyfriend schemed to get her to accept a mission to steal from the wizard's tower. Then he tipped the wizard of the event. Deirdre got caught shorthanded. She was offered a choice: a period of indentured slavery, the wizard calling the guards, or death by a powerful spell. She chose life.
More years past, where she was tasked with cleaning, cooking, washing, and preparing ritual materials. At this time, she learned few low level spells and learned how to prepare scrolls by watching.
She was kept a servant for several years, until she asked for her freedom, as the debt has been repaid. The master wizard accepted, but asked her to wait a couple weeks until he finishes an important experiment, and he needed her help. He promised a reward for her service. She was convinced.

A few days, she woke up in the middle of the night, walked to the bathroom, and she noticed his study tome open on the page of an incantation to summon demons, the section explaining the procedure of sacrificing a human to summon. She understood why he wanted to keep her a few weeks longer. She spent a few hours studying the symbols and thinking how to avert the scheme, until she reached a plan.
A few days later, she was preparing the room for a spell, she recognized the symbols drawn on the floor as the circle of protection wards. She intentionally left an area of the circle incomplete, and she hid a lock pick in her hair and a scroll of Knock in her sleeve. The master did not recheck the circle again, but bound Deirdre to the stone altar with a binding spell and commenced the ritual. The demon appeared and asked for a price for his service. The master wizard offered a tiefling sacrifice, which the demon agreed. However, the demon noticing that the circle is incomplete, said he will accept a human wizard sacrifice. He stepped out of the circle and walked towards the terrified wizard. A brief fight occurred with spells from both sides. Deirdre used the Knock scroll to untie herself and rushed out of the tower. The last thing she heard was the wizard's death cry, as the tower burned to the ground. She was free again, safe and sound, though broke and weaponless.

Pestering her old boyfriend back:
Deirdre never figured out that the boyfriend was the reasons he got caught. She returned back to the area where she used to live, and she found out that her boyfriend got married to one of the girls whom she never trusted. Plus, they had a child together. Bitter and feeling betrayed, she schemed to remove the rival wife from her lover's life. She waited for the best time, shot a rock through sling at a horse-driven chariot, causing the horses to run wild, and the wife got trampled under the wagon. The child survived miraculously, but the mother died. Then she walked in her funeral and consolidated her lover, reminding him of his promises to her.
Although he suspected her involvement, there was no proof. Yes he never trusted her untimely unexpected appearance during his time of grief. She continued pestering and annoying him, even threatening him if he did not accept her back in his life. At this point, he was afraid of her reaction. He asked for some time to put his life together. The suave sweet-talker convinced her that after he vanished, she left a hole in his life, and the late wife filled the void. He had no choice, but to take her in. Now is the time for mourning. She agreed and said she will wait for him. During this time, he was packing his bags to escape.

Re: Tiefling Application

Adopting a child:
Unfortunately for the ex-lover, his surviving child turned out to be a tiefling. His skin started turning reddish and leathery. He wallowed his bad misfortune, and remembered what Deirdre said about her parents, blaming her for their misfortune. He decided to walk away totally. So, he knocked on her door, politely, he asked her to take care of his child while he goes on for a mission. He said that this mission will bring him fortune, so together the three can live together happily. Deirdre was in seventh heaven (figuratively speaking). She agreed to adopt the child and be a mother to him. He made her promise to take care of her new adopted child. Then he took off, without telling her his whereabouts.
Months passed, and she started asking about his whereabouts. As it became known to her that he was not coming back, she decided to follow him. She took a ship eastwards to the Trackless Sea to Sword Coast.

Arriving at Aolyth:
One of the earlier stops was in Aolyth. She decided to check the island, to see if her 'fiance' has landed there, or if anyone has a clue to his current whereabouts.

Goals in life:
(1) Locate her 'fiance', live happily with him, "until death does them apart"
(2) Start an underground business, like smuggling, selling narcotics or drugs, or a small scale thieves guild.
(3) Make easy money with the least amount of effort possible.

Habits:
(1) She approaches people in the streets to beg, (through ruse, lying, playing on their guilt, or intimidation), or pick pocket
(OOC Note: I am aware that pick pocketing is illegal in this server, but players can roleplay pick pocketing without changing ownership of any items)
(2) She is a habitual drunk: she can drink a reasonable quantity of fireseed without getting drunk. She smokes occasionly during evenings and nights when she is not going to break into homes (she is aware that the smell of breath can give her away), and she is addicted to Silkroot (an addictive drug that boosts reflexes). Fortunately for her, she does not experience withdrawal symptoms due to her unique physiology.

Personality:
Smart: She is smart, cunning, and streetwise. She knows how to survive in the urban jungle.
Gullible: She does not learn from her mistakes, and her vanity allows her to be easily manipulated.
Scornful: She remembers and does not forget. She is not straightforward when it comes to take back what she believes is hers. She schemes and reviews all possible outcomes before reacting.

Philosophy:
Revenge Is A Plate Best Served Cold.
Real Roses Have Thorns Too.

Worship:
Deirdre pays homage to Beshaba, the Maid of Misfortune. She considers that if she really has negative karma or she is considered unlucky, then the best course of action is to avert that misfortune to others.

Possessions:
(1) A magical shortbow shaped like two bird wings: Her wizard master gave her that for her trouble. It is a foldable shortbow she and her master never figured out how to unfold or use. Though he did not let her keep any arrows, he knew that it was harmless to him. Deirdre was able to keep that in her
possession. She never managed to unlock it, yet.
(2) A blanket, child toy, and child spare clothes: Mainly everything she carries around is the baby's items in a backpack.
(3) A short poniard (a concealable shortsword)
(4) A sharp rapier: Originally it belonged to an Admiral. She stole it along with the Admiral's ring when he was drunk. Now she brags about it that she was the reason the admiral resigned from his position
(5) A hand size crossbow: she hides it in her sleeve, and can shoot tranquilizer darts, flare bolts, or poisonous bolts with the flick of her ring finger, pinky finger or both.
(6) A set of lockpicks (concealable under her hair)
(7) A few magical scrolls
(8) Some money
(9) Few clothes and supplies

Alignment and Class:
Neutral Evil: She cares more for her well-being. She would not break the law unnecessarily, but she might if it is in her best interest. She is selfish, vain, greedy, and apathetic.

Rogue (high level), Wizard (low level), Arcane Archer (low level):
Mainly she is a rogue: she lived in the inner city most of her time, she knows how to remain undetected when needed, how to be charming when seen, how to pick a pocket, how to pick a lock, how to fence stolen goods, and how to talk her way out of trouble with authority.
She has a few levels as a wizard: Her stay with the wizard master taught her the difference between different spells and incantations. She has relatively high spellcraft skill.
Deirdre will gain one level as Arcane Archer eventually (at high level), but she will first have to figure out how to unlock the magic shortbow's spell. She hopes that the priests of Selune could provide guidance.
(OOC: I mainly need the wizard level for the familiar. Please check the next section)

Leto Request:
I would like to request the following: Change the familiar skin to the little boy [SetAppearance 241 or Kid_Male],
and change the familiar icon to the little boy: [sign in to see URL], [sign in to see URL], [sign in to see URL], [sign in to see URL], [sign in to see URL]
Here is steps on how to:
[url][sign in to see URL]
(OOC Reason: During the first few weeks or months, Deirdre will be on her own, carrying the Baby Accessory Item on her arm. When the child grows a bit (provided both of them survive), I, the player, will control both the mother and the child via the Familiar Possession ability. The familiar is not meant to be able to fight or power level, only for roleplay purposes. I am aware of the server rules concerning playing child characters and will abide by them).

Feedback:
I am aware that most people do not have the time or patience to read an amateur's fiction the size of a textbook. I tried to make the information concise, straight forward, free of errors, and easily flowing.
I am open for feedback, criticism (positive or negative), concerns, or questions.
I appreciate the time you are spending when reading or considering my application.

(As I see it, too long is better than not long enough when it comes to applications; it shows that you put plenty of thought into the character concept and did all of your homework. The DMs are far less likely to approve someone who moseys in with something terse like "Hi, I wanna play a hagspawn because it would be awesome and no one else is playing a hagspawn right now, so why not?" Know what I mean? emoticon )

Re: Tiefling Application

My biggest concern has to do with the child. I am sceptical of how feasible it is for a character to take part in the server as a whole if they are stuck caring for an infant at all times. This character wouldn't be able to enter dungeons and travel far from settlements without endangering the child. This would also mean not getting involved in most DM run events.

@ The WIds
Thank you. I left out some unnecessary information because it got too long, such as Likes and Dislikes, Greatest Fear, and favorite food.

@ Totems
Good question: Allow me to elaborate briefly.
When the child is really young (to be carried on the baby carrier over the back), there are two choices:
First reasonable choice is to leave the child with the wife of the innkeeper. Deirdre is intelligent but naive (high intelligence and low wisdom). She is willing to leave the child with anyone who does not look like they are going to eat or kill the child in a few hours. She is a bad mother, after all.

Second bad choice is to carry him on her back and fight (like Black Widow in the comic ]Guardian Devil). True that Daredevil beat her easily while being drugged. But if she gets cornered, she may have no choice.

When the child is old enough to walk, talk and react with people:
The sensible way is to order the child to wait somewhere. But my plan was to make the the child make ]Dennis the Menace, ]Calvin (and Hobbes), ]Bart Simpson and ]Jummy Hopkinsseem like angels. He could follow the party, unaware of the danger, or he could get in trouble with the authorities while the party is adventuring, and Deirdre will bail him out.

Also, I don't think all the server might react positively to a child with reddish leather skin. Some characters may be indifferent to him, even if they are not going to hurt him.

Hey, so how did you decide upon the 60lb weight?

I only ask because that's really thin... More than [sign in to see URL] walking skeleton. As a healthcare provider I've only ever seen a body weights less than like 40kgs in like really really sick cachectic patients with some sort if wasting disease who are basically dying.

To put it in perspective ]This woman is near 60lbs.
