A thought on a single handed + no shield bonus
Here's an idea for people to pick apart. I've always wanted this fighting style to be worthwhile in NWN but of course it isn't. It makes far more sense to dual wield or use a two handed weapon if you intend to forego a shield.
So here's what I'm thinking. A simple check on the Equip / Unequip module script that applies an AB bonus of +1 per 4 character levels so long as they are using a single handed weapon without a shield. The moment a character equips a qualifying weapon, the bonus would be applied. The moment they equip a shield or remove the qualifying weapon, the Equip/Unequip script would immediately remove the bonus.
Feel free point out any potential exploits or whether you think it is OP. Or whether you think anyone would use this option. I think it could be useful.

Yea i think this is quite a nice idea! its something ive felt has been missing for a long time. It would certainly help in those casual situations where justifying your pc carrying a dock off great sword or tower shield would be a bit of a stretch

Re: A thought on a single handed + no shield bonus
I'm generally of the opinion that the drawback to the extra damage of a two handed weapon should be the AC, so I'm not totally convinced in automatic shield AC for people wielding large weapons. As for people wielding one handed weapons, (which this is more about) that seems something more fit to a finesse style fighter. If there was a shield AC bonus I'd tie it to dex modifier. (With a cap)
However the shield spell has been modified here to give shield AC and can be found on consumables, so PCs forgoing a shield can get AC that way.

She's talking about an attack bonus for using a one-handed weapon with nothing in the off-hand slot.
It's an interesting idea, but I don't think implementing it is feasible. The main reason is when nwscript removes an effect it doesn't consider the source. There is no efficient way to make it strip away only the single-handed bonus AB, and not the extra an from bard song or true strike. It will be messy.
Using a single-handed weapon by itself makes you cool. Take solace in that.

Now adjusting the finesse weapons feat to encompass a greater number of weapons, that would be nifty.

...starting with the quarterstaff. Giving the quarterstaff the option of being wielded as a double weapon (as it has in the D&D books) would be pretty neat too.

Don't forget that it's compatible with certain varieties of roleplay, too. It's always a bit disconcerting every time I log onto Forgotten Realms: Cormyr (or any other server that's chock full of retards) and see some oaf who's lugging a bastard sword in one hand and a tower shield in the other walk up to someone and *lifts him by the throat*. What? How? You're holding ten pounds of steel in one hand and 45 pounds of lumber in the other, and I didn't see you drop or unequip either one! What, did you spontaneously sprout a third arm or a tentacle or a Force Choke or something?
With a free hand, you can choke punks all day without slowing down. Take solace in that too.

This is true... I'm going to have to put some thought into a simple implementation if nothing else than to rise to the challenge and see if it can be done, regardless of whether or not it's actually implemented. I'm currently in a scripting phase redoing some WSI scripts for submission here anyway.
