Re: A Baker's Dozen of Movies!

In a nutshell: Arnold Schwarzenegger's a broken down, drunk-half-the-time-and-suicidal-the-other-half policeman on his last leg, Gabriel Byrne is some corrupt businessman who gets possessed by Lucifer/the Devil/Satan/that guy, and Robin Tunney was abducted as a baby because she was prophesied to get knocked up by the Devil (whether willingly or not) and give birth to the Antichrist. So the scumdog cop's trying to stop the Devil from getting his hands on the prophecy babe, and the Devil's calling on his cultists, reanimating the cop's dead buddies and generally pulling out all the stops. Also, the Devil just shrugs off Arnold's close-range shotgun blasts and other small arms fire. Because he's the Devil, that's why.

(SPOILYLICIOUS WARNING: If you must see End of Days for any particular reason, see it because it's one of those rare movies where an Arnold Schwarzenegger character actually dies before the end. All of the Terminator movies, End of Days...I think that's it. It's a pretty exclusive club. No, Conan the Barbarian doesn't count; he got better, didn't he? emoticon )

And how could we forget:

13 movies featuring an antihero:
1) Fight Club
2) Escape from New York
3) Leon: The Professional
4) Drive
5) X-Men
6) District Nine
7) End of Days
8) Blood Diamond
9) The Warriors

...because when you're a gang leader trying to clear your street gang's name and keep them from getting killed off by even meaner street gangs with occasionally questionable tastes in apparel, there's really no room for knights in shining armor, is there?

Back to you. emoticon

I'll have to watch End of Days..Arnold is consistently amusing no matter what.

Taken features the best directed fight scenes I've yet to see in a movie. Glorious.

Besides, Taken stars Liam Neeson, and he consistently brings his best vibe to the silver screen. If not for him, Ewan McGregor and Ray Park (and maybe Ian McDiarmid too), The Phantom Menace would have been pretty well unwatchable for me.

And you're right. Even in his worst performances, The Arnold entertains and he's always highly quotable. Is it the accent? Is it the strong jaw? Is it the confident twinkle in his eyes? There's no way to put a finger on the nebulous trait responsible for this phenomenon. I just call it the Arnold Factor. emoticon

Also, the mere existence of Austrian Death Machine is one big shout-out to Arnold and all of his movie roles. So there's that. emoticon

And here's another one for the "How soon I forget" category:

13 movies featuring an antihero:
1) Fight Club
2) Escape from New York
3) Leon: The Professional
4) Drive
5) X-Men
6) District Nine
7) End of Days
8) Blood Diamond
9) The Warriors
10) Taken
11) 12 Monkeys

Okay, who's next? Joffrey? Fraydoc? Alishi? Someone else? emoticon
