Re: A Baker's Dozen of Movies!

Ahh, but what if the apes were the real good guys all along, preserving the planet after we "damned dirty humans" did such a great job wrecking it? emoticon

Yeah, okay....

13 movies where evil triumphs:
1) Seven
2) Primal Fear
3) Saw
4) The Blair Witch Project
5) Cabin in the Woods
6) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
7) Lord of War
8) The Empire Strikes Back (Star Wars Episode V, etc.)
9) Planet of the Apes
10) The Lawnmower Man

You know what this topic needs? More people posting in it. Surely Joffrey, Fraydoc and I aren't the only people who have seen any good movies lately.... emoticon

11) The Dark Knight

This one is more debatable, but the good guys end up in a worse place than they started...so I count that as a win for evil.

Having seen The Dark Knight, I think I can agree with that. All in favor? Any opposed? emoticon

Oh, and how soon I forget (and re-remember):

13 movies where evil triumphs:
1) Seven
2) Primal Fear
3) Saw
4) The Blair Witch Project
5) Cabin in the Woods
6) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
7) Lord of War
8) The Empire Strikes Back
9) Planet of the Apes
10) The Lawnmower Man
11) The Dark Knight
12) Frankenstein Unbound

Did you ever have one of those days where you jump into the future with Frankenstein's Monster, and you impale him on some piece of a gigantic global supercomputer, only instead of killing him you end up somehow transferring his consciousness to said gigantic global supercomputer, thus inadvertently ensuring his immortality while simultaneously serving up a convenient allegory about how, as our technology advances, so does our capacity to create bigger and bigger monsters?

I hate those days. emoticon

And we're back at #13. Okay, next person? You know what to do. emoticon

13) Starship Troopers

Another debatable one but I think it fits the bill given the movies satirical undertones. The protagonists triumph but they're serving an oppressive dictatorship in the genocide of a species that never caused them harm.

13 movies featuring an antihero:
1) Fight Club

Didn't the bugs start the fight by farting asteroids towards Earth, though? Or was that in retaliation to something else?

*regrets not adding Freddy vs. Jason to that last list somewhere; considering that it was a villain-versus-villain kind of movie, the only way that good could have triumphed would be if someone came in and took both of them down. Needless to say, that didn't happen* emoticon

No, that was propaganda in one of the satirical newsreels. The joke is that Klendathu is so far from Earth (literally half a galaxy away as shown in the newsreel) that there's no way in hell they could have shot something like a meteor with enough velocity and precision to hit the earth let alone reach the solar system in under a few hundred thousand years.

Drive is such a weird movie. Still don't know whether I like it. The protagonist is just so... odd.

Is Wolverine still considered an antihero, or do I have to go all the way up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine and invoke Deadpool instead? emoticon
