Paladin Orders.

Couple questions!

Does anybody have any references for the Forgotten Realms paladin orders? Everything I've found is really bare-bones.

If no solid sources exist, can we make stuff up to fill in the blanks?

Can we make up entire paladin orders?

Thanks!

Don't forget that the gods of Faerun aren't as potent on the island as the actual Andrunese gods! If you were thinking of creating a paladin, maybe you could have that character found their own order.

Yeah, Ronan isn't even from an order. If he ever did start a paladin order of his own, it would probably be based in a mead hall, and specialize in striving for harmony between humans, elves, and fey. There would be brawls at that mead hall every other day, as philosophy discussions with more conservative knights and clergy turn either ugly, or violently playful.

Are you referring to the Fir Bolg Gods?

Snacks are of course incredibly important to the roleplaying experience. Being part of a balanced diet, it's essential to have representatives of all four basic food groups: sugar, salt, fat, and caffeine. ~Irregulars - January 02, 2011.

Paladins have always had somewhat of a curious position in our world. Its a difficult class to play as the setting can be dark and gritty at times, though paladins can be fantastic if well played.

Otherwise Runes nailed it with the list of paladin orders. As for Firbolg deities Aine, Dadga, and Lugaid are most likely to be served by paladins. Of course they are forced to contend with more savage practitioners of Firbolg religion.

Meanwhile within the Empire the need for chivalrous warriors is drying up in favor more cut-throat means of getting what they want.

This could be especially confusing both to mainland paladins and firbolg warriors who have taken up a sense of chivalry. Andrune's history and culture may have a lot of chivalric stories and the thin veneer of a chivalric expectation, yet the ideals of chivalry have fallen by the wayside. We can see some of the atmosphere of the city in descriptive text triggered every time we go into it: the word "decadent" stands out.

Yet some who embrace the Exile's teachings could still hold to the ideals of knighthood, along with the courtesies and honest valour it embodies. Perhaps you could work with a dm to have a paladin character trying to rebuild an old order of knights from the empire's shining past? You could find yourself actually at odds with my own firbolg paladin on issues of theology, as well as with mainland paladins of the established forgotten realms pantheon. Religious tension between heroes could be interesting roleplay, though I would hesitate to let it go too far. After all, paladins are supposed to be wise, and rabid fanaticism isn't.
