At least by D&D conventions - if the cap for standard race PCs is 21, an LA +2 race would be capped at 19. I'd be inclined to follow suit, I mean you can't expect to play an Aasimar paladin, with that nice +2 wisdom and charisma, and be able to hit 21 like an ordinary human without those special perks.

If people truly perceive this as unfair we can give the cap a higher bump, I suppose.

Why cant people vote for this cap? Make a poll?

But yes, I agree that LA things should have a lesser max lvl..

I would agree that ECL races have to be regarded at a higher standard, meaning that the players have to exert better effort to RP an exotic race, while worse RPing might be acceptable for a common race (for example, RPing a fire genasi is more demanding than RPing a wizard focusing on fire magic).
However, I am concerned that if the main reason for keeping exotic races out of epic classes is to deter players from using them.
Is there a poll somewhere? If not, then I will go by the majority rule.

Hey guys, this is starting to float off topic. Lets try to reign it back in about epic levels.

For a 21 cap, I think the only epic spells available are mummy dust and Dragon Knight.

I don't think it's ever the subrace that makes someone a bad player. Certainly bad players might be attracted by the idea of a shiny, special race, but the same could be said about elves in general, too.

The PvPing thing is a good idea too, assuming everyone is fair about it and doesn't log off when it seems imminent.

So those characters that will be decreased in levels, some might loose 1 or 2, and some will be dropped by 5, they will not gain anything in "trade" for these lost levels..? I havent wanted to roll up a new char the last years, hoping that I one day might reach 30 with the main one.. after what.. 9 years?

The big problem is that while Fraydoc might hit 30, nobody else could ever catch up to him. It's impossible to DM anything for him, because anything in the module would just be flattened under him. There's no point in competing with him on a PC or an NPC. The same problem comes up with Haze, Numos, etc.

I think part of the hope in narrowing the level range will open up more plots for those higher level PCs. I don't know if there's a plan to compensate those who would be dropped if Numos changes anything.

In time, everyone gets up in levels.
Its not like im expecting to be on any events. Lately he's been taking people on expeditions and started up a new faction. He's more like a NPCish guy.

Wouldn't it be neat if we could come up with a widget or a menu that allowed Fraydoc to give quests, like "Go into Dungeon X, defeat Enemy Y and bring back Object Z" or somesuch?

Fraydoc could be an Epic-level walking quest dispenser! Why go to Goodie or Elwin when Fraydoc's around? In Soviet Andrune, mission-giver comes to you. emoticon

Numos was 29th to put things in perspective.

I mean, yeah, you invest time in acquiring levels but those are secondary to the goal of a good story. Everyone does get up in levels, but I don't know if an enormous gap between veteran PCs and fresh concepts is necessarily desirable.

To answer your question, Aero, I honestly don't think the intent of the 21 cap is to impede the development of ECL PCs. I mean I suppose they could eventually be allowed to reach that point, just more slowly?
