Portrait issues

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. So, I got a new computer back in october, and since then I've had a few issues with NWN. Mostly, they've been fixed or I've found workarounds. But this one is kind of odd.

Every time I go to use the Narfell portrait pack installer, it tries to just put the portraits in the base NWN directory, which doesn't do anything.

Now, I know a few of you reading are probably like "Dude, just make it put those files in the portraits folder." But don't scroll down to call me an idiot just yet, because that folder doesn't exist.

Once again, you're probably thinking "God, this guy is dumb. JUST MAKE A PORTRAITS FOLDER." But again, take your finger off the scroller. When I do that, and change the directory that the portrait files are supposed to go, so that they go into that shiny new portraits folder, it tells me that it's an invalid directory.

Attempts to extract the actual installer, and move the files themselves into the portrait folder also appear to be completely fruitless, as there are only single copies of each portrait, as opposed to the five required.

Re: Portrait issues

I used to have problems with nwn2 installed on an imported, old hard drive I put in my updated rig. The game ran out of one directory, but refused to make saves there, instead putting them elsewhere entirely. If you did something similar with your new comp, check for another nwn directory somewhere. Obviously disregard if you're running off a total new machine install.

I'm a little confused where the problem is, though. The NWN directory you're playing from has a portraits folder, but the narfell extractor refuses to dump its' contents there, or in any folder you can then copy/paste to the right place?

Running the extractor program as normal and pointing it to any old temporary folder gives you a folder full of useless single images?

Most perplexing!

Yeah. The directory, Windows (Cemoticon/programfilesx86/GOG.com/Neverwinter Nights Diamond edition/portraits wasn't there inherently, so I created the folder. However, the installer doesn't recognize that, or any other folders within the NWN directory as valid.

But what you can do is use an extractor 7zip, winrar, etc. on the actual installer itself, which yields a bunch of folders, one of which is labeled PORTRAITS, and is filled with single named files of all the portraits, except they don't have file extensions, either. So I tried adding a file extension to a few of them, the same one I saw being used on some of the portraits I manually added. This still didn't work, since it's just a single image. Extracting those single files doesn't do anything, either.

Well, it might be a pain in the ass, but it's fairly easy to make one image into the five portrait files needed to use them in nwn.

Assuming there are no invalidities in the folder names, like characters that shouldn't be there, I'm not sure what the problem could be. Looking at the filepath you provided, I don't think it would allow the '.' in 'GOG.com'.

*edit*
I just tested and it's allowed, so it's unlikely to be that.

Other than that, have you tried running the installer as Admin?
