Hidden in Moonveil

The brilliant orange and pink sunset lit up the sky as the ball of flame fell below the sea. Elluir sighed to himself, perched on a rock near the shoreline at New Rivenmaur. A sudden squeaking above him caused him to look up seeing a cloud of bats streaming out into the darkening sky. He smirked to himself. "Why not?"

Jumping of the rock he changed in mid air to his bat form. Being a priest to Selune had its advantages. One of which was a quick and fluid change. He took wing into the sky to join the horde of dark shapes winging out into the night.

Having lost himself to his instincts, the elven part of Elluir came back to him as he began descending with the mass of bats to a small crack in the side of a cliff along the coast of New Rivenmaur. He followed his winged brethren into the crevice and found something he hadn't expected. A massive open cave system. The bats took to the ceiling to hang and sleep. Ell on the other hand landed on the cavern floor and shifted back. With a snap of his fingers a soft moonglow emitted in his immediate vicinity, not enough to bother the tired bats above. He began wandering deeper into the cavern.

Exploring the caves system was exhilirating and tiring as the caverns were extensive. Some time after starting he noticed a pinprick of light in the distance. As he grew closer he noticed a soft light high up a steep slope in the cavern. He carefully made his way up and emerged into a fully enclosed glade - somewhere deep into Moonveil forest.

The clearing retained the misty darkness of the rest of Moonveil. Mist wreathed amongst elder trees and a soft calm silence permeated the wood. Elluir made his way deeper into the secret glade. A large silvery pool sat at one edge, slowly draining into a little stream.

Exhaustion threatening to overtake Elluir, he laid himself down amongst a field of small white flowers, next to the large pool. Sleep came quickly and he had strange dreams. Images of moonlight and long dark hair tossed to the wind flashed to the sounds of deer calling and bells tinkling.

When Elluir awoke, he now lay beside a newly erupted bubbling fountain. When he place his hand in its cool water a tingle shot up his arm and soft words caressed his ears.

"A gift, dearest..."

He sat up trying to reorient himself and noticed tall trees surrounding the bank of the large, and now moonlit, pool. The trees were massive and not any species he recognized. Their large leaves sparkled an irridescent silver and the bark smelled lightly of cinnamon.

"Goddess..." Elluir murmured to himself. He began to work his way back to the entrance. Sudden movement out the corner of his eye caught his attention and he whirled to see a doe slowly cross the flowered clearing to him. The doe met Elluirs eyes, then she dipped her head allowing him to scratch her ears. Her coat was amazingly soft. The delicate hairs were the same glowing silver as the leaves of the strange tree. Elluir had slept all day and the moon's light lit up the clearing like the sun never could have. A breeze rustled the foliage creating soft sighs and whispers. A low hoot echoed and Elluir saw the flash of a white bird amongst the trees.

Elluir had found the place. Selune had given him a shrine.
