A Nearly Finished To-Do List

Kedri crossed the Avendel promade on his way to meet Rowley’s clerk at the House of Lords. It had been a productive day, he had already concluded deals with his final supplies, put down orders on building materials and contracted craftsmen. The reduced rate Lord Rowley had given him, combined with the preexiting foundations had allowed him to expand his original plans making the shop a bit bigger.

Before long he was approaching the House of Lords and stopped to do a quick check of the documents he had with him. Finally he looked at the once seemingly insurmountable to-do list he had written himself a few months back. Only two items remained, this meeting and one final task which was more of a courtesy than a requirement. He smiled to himself and palmed the paper crumpling it up and discretely dissolving it to ash with a small cantrip before stepping into the entry hall of the building for his meeting.

Kedri is directed by one of the tribune pages through the grand imperial halls and down one of the quiet corridors. The young page leaves him in a small office, where a long nosed man in spectacles sits working at a desk. The man, hunched over his entry books and spreadsheets does not look up from his work but begins to speak.

" Can I help you?"

"Ah.. yes. I spoke with Lord Rowely a week past and he assented to me setting up shop in Bodkin." Kedri shuffled through his sheaves of parchment. "We also agreed upon a lot to be leased, as well as the price and first payment was made."

Kedri smilled helpfully though the man still hadn't looked up from his ledger.

"He said I was to come see you in a week, and conclude matters."

The clerk raised his head slightly, gazing at the young wizard over the glasses which had now slid down the bridge of his nose and spoke, "You are the mage Kedri yes?"

He produces a packet of parchment from beneath his desk and places it in front of Kedri. Flipping to the last page, his long ink stained finger indicates a signiture line.

"Sign here to state that you, Kedri who ever has been granted the fief above described in the village of bodkin, to open a shop, pay taxes, and of course swear fealty to Lord Henry Rowley." The moment Kedri's signature is placed on the paper, the clerk pours red hot wax on the pages bottom. With a large brass stamp engraved with the Rowley seal, a lion rampant, the clerk presses the mark into the wax.

"Congratulations. You may go the same way you came in." The clerk returns to his work.
