Andrune: The Empire

Andrune

Capital: Avendel
Ruler: Emperor Aarus Merovin XVII (Male human cleric 38)
Government: Council of Barons
Demographics: Human (58%), elven*, halfling (16%), dwarven (12%), goblin (4%), other (10%).
Resources & Industry: Largely agrarian.
*Elves are indigenous to Aolyth, and while their population size may rival that of humans, their interactions with the Empire are rare.

The Empire of Andrune has ruled the island of Aolyth for over 1000 years. In its past Andrune was ruled by a line of powerful Emperors and strong military power. But for the past century Andrune has been a loose alliance of several Baronies and counties. The nobility of Andrune rule their lands with little interference from the Emperor, who remains a figurehead at best.

The true rulers of Andrune are a council of powerful Barons who convene in the nation's capital, Avendel. The councilmen were the victors of a century-long civil war which occurred following a rebellion against the last Emperor.

Re: The Empire of Andrune

Titles & Hierarchy

The Emperor: Direct descendants of Aarus the Exile, the first Emperor of Andrune. The Emperor's word is law, and his rule is absolute. Some believe he rules by divine mandate. Whether or not this is true... all Emperors to date have been known to command very old, very powerful magic,

Barons & Baronesses: Andrune is partitioned into baronies, each governed by a noble family. The Barons are the heads of these families. They are second only to the Emperor in power.

Dukes & Duchesses: The baronies are subdivided into duchies, governed by dukes. Dukes are drawn from senior, or otherwise proven members of the nobility.

Lords & Ladies: To be a lord or lady, one simply must be born into nobility. Some lords manage single households or villages. Others have no land, and no political power beyond their station.

Knights (Sirs and Dames): The rank of Knight is earned by birth, or through imperial servitude. The powers of a knight vary. For some, the title is ceremonial. For others, the title comes with privileges and duties, such as military command.

Priests & Scholars: Learned men and women of Andrune are given a reverence and respect beyond that of a commoner.

Commoners: Commoners are free to do as they please, within the law. Their social power is measured only by pocket-depth.
