The Tuatha, people of the wood

The Tuatha

Capital: The tribes gather at an agreed-upon location every decade.
Ruler: Eludir Danlen, Archdruid
Government: Council of tribal elders
Resources & Industry: The tuatha are a hunter-gatherer people.

The Tuatha are a race of wood elves who, along with their faerie kinfolk, have occupied forested hills of Aolyth long before the Empire set foot on its shores. There are few accounts of war between the Tuatha and Andrune, but the elves insist that the Empire betrayed them long ago.

The Tuatha are a nomadic people, and there is little unity amongst their tribes. But they are universally wary of outsiders, and few non-Tuatha have ever set foot within an elvish camp. Likewise, the fairfolk value their privacy and seldom allow themselves to be seen be the mortal races.

They bear a resemblance to their elvish cousins, with tanned complexions and hair ranging from deep auburn to fiery red. The fairfolk never show signs of aging, and rarely die of natural causes. Born into the world with supernatural power, most elves have some grasp of arcana. The greatest of the Tuatha are often potent sorcerers.

But despite their long lives and magical acuity Tuathan civilization has changed very little since its advent. Characterized by stubbornness and a distaste for change, the Tuatha are content with their nomadic tribes. In contrast, humans have built vast empires within a small fraction of a single elf’s lifetime.

Re: The Tuatha

Culture and Religion

The woodfolk worship a vast pantheon of animal gods. According to elvish myth, these spirits ruled over the land long ago. The Tuathan account of the legend is that the first Emperor poisoned the animal gods, forcing them into hibernation, so he could claim rulership. But according to Imperial lore, the spirits willingly stepped aside and gave the island to the Emperor.

While the elvish pantheon includes many animal spirits, only a handful are well known to outsiders:

Erular: The great wolf, and patron to hunters. His priests are powerful warriors, known to transform into wolves. He is the grandfather of Dadga's bastard son, Erawyn, the Firbolg god of hunting.

Old Wormrot: The alligator god of death and renewal. He guides the spirits of the dead into the afterlife, and brings new ones into the world. Old Wormrot was slain by the pantheon for denying them the Tree of Life.

Valinael: The white stag, god and protector of herbivores and gentle creatures. His mortal followers are diplomats and pacifists. Valinael is married to Aine, the Firbolg Goddess of Spring.
