The Black Dragon Chronicles - Quest Series

Lore

Lionheart Monastery

The Lionheart Monastery is well-known for its fighting techniques, the Art of the Shishinken. For hundreds of years the Lionheart Monastery has been run as an orphanage and training ground for promising young warriors of all races, by a group of dwarven monks. Orphans in the Monastery begin their training at the age of six. The Monastery, on the approval of the Grand Master, also accepts outsiders seeking to train as a monk. The current Grand Master is Grand Master Ironhammer.

Rules:

In order for an outsider to be accepted into the Monastery, he must first pass the Trial of the Lion, which requires that the lion statue outside the gate of the monastery be lifted single-handedly till the gate opens. Once the lion statue is lifted the gate will open and at that point he will have to drop the statue and run in before the gate closes.

Once a monk begins his training at the Monastery, whether as an orphan or as an outsider, he is not allowed to leave the Monastery until he passes the Trial of Strength. The Trial of Strength is a test passing which means that the monk is qualified to leave the Monastery. The Trial requires that a monk fight his way through the Corridor of Lion Strength, divided into four areas. Each area is guarded by 18 monks, specially trained to fight and stop any monk that wishes to pass the Trial. The first 18 monks wield axes, and the second hammers. The last area is guarded by 18 monks who fight unarmed, and are the most deadly. In the last area a monk will fight all the 54 monks at once and must defeat them. Once a monk successfully passes the four areas, assuming he is still alive, by tradition of the Monastery he will then mark himself on the arms and chest by hugging and lifting a boiling cauldron with drawings of lions on it.

Story:

With the Tyr's Bravura stolen and Zak'tor rescued by a mysterious half-orc, is there still hope for our heroes to recover the sword?

As promised, Samuel Odger took our heroes to meet the General he spoke of. The General referred to himself as Shan'dir Thundersoul, General of the Thundersoul Legion. During the meeting Samuel and his aide Frank were questioned about what had happened with the sword. Dissatisfied with Samuel's handling of Zak'tor Thundersoul relieved Samuel of his command. He was to be placed under watch and not allowed to leave the Bulwark, the fortress of the Legion.

After our heroes were taken back to Avendel, Frank revealed that a person named Grand Master Ironhammer of the Lionheart Monastery might be able to provide information as to the identity of the man who rescued Zak'tor.

Chapter 1: In Come the Lions

Despite her distrust of the Thundersoul Legion, Malithra travelled with Legionnaire Jocelyn Wilmhurst to the Lionheart Monastery for the second time. During the first visit Grand Master Ironhammer was still meditating in his meditation chamber. And our heroes did not get the chance to see him.

In the second visit Malithra and Jocelyn were able to meet the Grand Master, who revealed that he have had three students he trained personally: the Black Dragon that attacked the Triad, Mal'kelah L'torl, Mike Troll, and a young monk named Sky. Both Mal'kelah and Sky passed the Trial of Strength. Mike Troll never finished his training with Ironhammer. He left the Monastery to pursue the path of a paladin. That he left without passing the Trial was a violation of the Monastery's rules and angered Ironhammer.

Mal'kelah was also known as Iron Fist within the Monastery. Ironhammer revealed that part of Mal'kelah's strength came from two relics he possessed: Claws of the Nine Dragons and Boots of the White Tiger, which also prolonged his life, as it had been about 250 years since he left the Monastery!

Despite the fact that the odds were in Mal'kelah's favour, and knowing that no monks in the Monastery would be able to defeat Mal'kelah, Ironhammer sent his youngest student Sky to help the Triad. The strength of Sky still remained a mystery, although the Grand Master said that Sky had passed the Trial of Strength. Before Sky departed Ironhammer told him: "Do not fight Iron Fist. You are no match for his strength."

Chapter 2: Mysterious Note

A group of adventurers were hired by Malithra to investigate Mike Troll's tomb for the second time. The group discovered that someone had searched the tomb since the last battle and before the group's arrival. In the middle chamber, where the sword was turned evil with a ritual, a decaying corpse of a Black Dragon was found underneath Mike's stone coffin. The coffin itself was opened and it was empty.

The group decided to move the coffin so they could examine the corpse better. They found a note in the Black Dragon's clothes. The note was written in the Orcish tongue and only Vladimir Kross could read it. The note read:

"When we bring Soc'neh back and the shipment arrives we will retrieve the sword.....Rivenmaur.....when the shipment arrives no one will be able to stop us....."

Obviously the name Soc'neh was the key. Who was he? What was the shipment referred to in the note?

Meanwhile, the Sword, now an artifact of evil, had been growing more powerful day by day as it was in the possession of evil...

Re: The Black Dragon Chronicles - Quest Series

Lore:

Thundersoul Legion

The Thundersoul Legion (Legion) is a large group of volunteer soldiers from around the world who devote themselves to the protection of relics and maintaining peace. One of their priorities is the elimination of the Black Dragons. As the Thundersoul Legion functions as ‘world police’ they receive funding and donations from nations and empires, their main source of income. There are other sources of income but those are classified information which only high ranking officers will have access to.

Led by General Shan’dir Thundersoul, the Legion has a complex rank system:

---- Officer Ranks ----

1 General
10 Lieutenant Generals
50 Commanders
150 Lieutenant Commanders
400 Major
1200 Captain

----- Non-officer Ranks -----

5000 Sergeant
?????? Thunderblade
?????? Trainee (non-commissioned)

The Thundersoul Guardians

The Thundersoul Guardians are a special squad who report directly to the General himself. They are often used for special, extremely dangerous missions that require the skill of a veteran Thundersoul officer. There are rumours suggesting the existence of a special squad called the Cobra, another regiment independent of the normal chain of command and known for its use of unethical and unconventional tactics and measures such as torture and assassination. Legionaires of this rank have the reputation of being ruthless soldiers and are known to carry out primarily assassination missions. Officer of note: Frank Paston.

Knights of the Legion are a special rank of honour for those who have made siginificant contributions to the Legion. Officer of note: Jocelyn Wilmhurst

Class: Thundersoul Legionaire

Min. Req: Neutral Neutral/Neutral Good/Lawful Neutral/Lawful Good; Weapon Proficiency Martial; Light/Medium/Heavy Armour Proficiency; all classes except wizard/sorceror/druid, who may join the Thundersoul Wizards instead. Paladins may join the ranks but are not recommended due to the Legion's use of military tactics which may be unethical as far as the paladin code goes. All those who apply to join will be subjected to security screening and background check. New recruits are known as trainees and will be trained at the Thundersoul Fortress, a mobile fortress on the sea. The location of the Legion's base is unknown.

Training:

The training course is divided into several modules:

1. Rules of the Legion
2. Self Defence
3. Advanced Self Defence
4. Weapon Training Part I
5 Weapon Training Part II
5. Assault Part I: Enemy Building and Facility
6. Assault Part II: Large-scale Assault
7. Assassination: The Basics
8. Assassination: Advanced (for those with the Rogue or Assassin class only)
9. Survival and Crisis Management

Naval Force:

The Legion possesses a large naval force as its missions often require extensive travelling, and it was designed to counter the Black Dragons' ships. The Legion's naval force consists of two classes of vessels: The Goliath and The Thunder. The Goliath class ships are twice the size of the largest civilian ships and are equipped with cannons as well as ballistas, on both the lower deck and the upper deck. Each ship can carry 100 Legionaires and is designed to be mobile fortresses. Each Goliath carries at least four small boats. A Thunder is half the size of a Goliath, can carry 30 soliders, and is equipped with 2 cannons and 4 ballistas and one small boat. Legionaires are free to use the ships at any time provided they are on a mission or for a good cause.

Attire:

Each Legionaire carries three forms of identification at all times: a tag on their neck, a Legionaire badge, and a mission badge. When a Legionaire receives a mission he/she will be given a Mission Badge which Is to be returned to his/her command on successful completion of the mission. Each Legionaire carries a metal tag attached to a chain and is worn as a necklace. All Legionaires are required to wear the tag at all times. Male Legionaires’ tags are silver and the females’ are gold. Missing tags and badges usually indicate that an officer has been killed and/or the mission was a failure. When an officer is killed on the field his/her fellow soldier will remove the tag and/or mission badge and carry it back to his/her superiors. A Legionaire on a mission is expected to engage only in activities that are vital to accomplishing that mission, unless a situation arises where interference is necessary in accordance with the mission statement of the Legion.

All Legionaires except the Wizards wear plate armour. Those of the officer ranks wear armour in gold and black and officers of the lower ranks wear armour in silver and black.

Mounts:

As with ships, mounts are an important means of travel for a Legionaire. The Legion provides the best feed and barding they can provide and takes special care of the mounts of their soldiers. Once a soldier acquires a mount of its own he can then outfit it with barding provided by the Legion. There are two kinds of barding for a Legion mount: lower-rank officers' mounts have silver and black barding while higher-rank officers can have a choice of purple or red and black barding.

(OOC: Once a character has joined the Legion and if he/she has a mount of his/her own it can be used to exchange for a black and white jousting horse. When the character is promoted to the officer rank he/she can then exchange his/her current mount for the purple jousting horse or the red and black jousting horse)

Arsenal:

The Legion is well known for its extensive use of warships and heavy weaponry, it's arsenal includes:

The Bulwark
Goliath-class ships
Thunder-class ships
Cannons, Ballistas
Portal System (Classified)
Thunder Golems (Classified)

Chapter 3: Book of the Dragon

A mysterious big man, named Mark, in the Wasted Whale asked Pais and Montaron to retrieve a book, which was stolen from him by a group of bandits. Before the two set off Mark asked the two not to touch the pages inside the book.

The two killed all but one bandit as they spared his life and demanded that he hand over the book. The bandit complied but was curious and opened it, touched the pages inside, and died immediately. The book had thick covers made of solid gold making it quite heavy and the pages were gold in colour as well.

After retrieving the book Pais and Montaron went back to the Inn and gave the book Mark, who then paid each of them a sum of 5000 gold in cash, plus gold bars with the mark of a dragon on them valued at 5000 gold. With Pais on his side Mark opened the book to inspect it. He took out the solid gold covers and opened them, revealing very small golden daggers inside. He then reassembled the book and put it away with a smile on his face.

Chapter 4a: Mal'kelah's Game Part I

Mark in the Wasted Whale asked a group including Pais, Malithra and Saedrun to retrieve a piece of jewellery for him, again this time he claimed it was stolen from him by the bandits in the snowy mountains. When the group got there they found the jewellery and beneath it a piece of golden paper with the mark of a dragon on one side and a skull on the other. As soon as the group picked it up they were attacked by a group of bandits. But they were not ordinary bandits for they almost successfully killed our heroes.

Our heroes became suspicious. In an attempt to find out more about the symbol they went to the Lexicon where the owner told them that in stories certain assassins would leave something behind bearing their mark on the body of their victims; an example would bea piece of paper with their mark on one side and a skull on the other. Pais who had previously worked for Mark recognised the symbol and told the group that he had seen the mark on the gold bars which Mark gave him as payment.

When the group went back to the Wasted Whale they found Jariel on the floor unconscious, with some gold wrapped in the same kind of golden paper they found in the mountains. Jariel told him that when Mark left he paid him but as soon as he touched the gold he collapsed. It was then apparent that the paper had been coated in poison.

Who is this 'Mark'? Was he trying to get our heroes killed? If so, why?

Chapter 4b: Mal'kelah's Game Part II

Mal'kelah attacked again. This time his target was Malithra. He was under orders to kill her and take her sword. Seconds before the two fought Sky stepped in and told Malithra to run to Avendel to get help. Mal'kelah and Sky fought in a violent battle in the forest. Although Sky was no match for Mal'kelah's strength and was seriously injured, he kept fighting while running towards Avendel. At Avendel's gate Sky finally fell. Mal'kelah turned to Malithra as Montaron and Fraydoc watched. Montaron attacked Mal'kelah but with a single punch the powerful orc knocked him to the ground and disabled him.

Just as Mal'kelah attacked Malithra Sky, despite his injuries and being unable to even stand up, grabbed Mal'kelah's leg trying to stop him. Annoyed, the orc kicked and punched Sky trying to shake him off; and performed the Dark Art technique Lion's Strike of Regret on Sky, striking Sky's head with both fists. Just as Mal'kelah performed the deadly attack Malithra threw her shield at the orc and the orc's fists hit the shield. But the force was so great that the shield still hit Sky's head. And Sky fell unconscious.

The orc looked at the fallen Sky for a moment, with a look of regret on his usually expressionless face, and left.

Chapter 5: Soc'neh Lok'lah L'torl

The Legion with the help of a group of adventurers investigated an armoury of the Black Dragons located on an island. Inside the armoury they found an army of golems waiting to be activated and Mike Troll, now known as Soc'neh L'toril and resurrected through necromancy and fighting alongside the Black Dragons.

The Legion now has the golems plans retrieved from the armoury. Apparently the golems were given to the Black Dragons by some elves. Who are these elves? What is the Black Dragon's next move?

Re: The Black Dragon Chronicles - Quest Series

Troubles in Sunspring Meadows

OOC: To make the long story short I will explain in brief what happened and what people are supposed to have knowledge about.

1. What Kieran and the druids know:

Two people with great powers, an female elf and a big man, started troubles in Sunspring Meadows during an investigation carried out by the Legion and the players. The two tried to bust into a house, without success, in an attempt to retrieve a device. They said they would come back in two weeks and threatened to destroy the town if the device is not handed over.

2. What the Triad knows:

A female elf accompanied by a big man went to visit the Triad claiming they were tourists. Someone working with the Triad followed them and eavesdropped on the two. The elf said a number of things:

a) She said to the big man that his old friends are still alive. Hint: the big man probably knows the paladins and vice versa.

b) The Black Dragons, the Triad, and the Legion will all be eliminated eventually.

c) The big man and someone named Sky would be her new generals.

d) Something about the sword not being complete yet.
