Meeting with the Dukes

Malithra in sight of resent events wishes to meet with the Dukes. After sending word to Avendel, that an attack would happen on the city as well as possible other towns, she Lanthar, and Kieren struck a hard blow to the Huntress. She sent knights to Sunspring and reinforced Rivenmaur.

After the successes in diffending against the raiding parties. Also with the fact that the dukes were taking a large portion of what the people had grown as far as live stalk and produce. She feels that talking to them about such situations and helping them instead of taking to much is needed.

Re: Meeting with the Dukes

Malithra receives a written response, via a messenger, from only one of the Barons: Janette Ebonhart, sovereign of Rivenmaur and Moonveil.

"Ms. Silverblade,

I am under the impression you are confused as to our arrangement. I did not endeavor to reconstruct Rivenmaur as I thought it a waste of resources and lives. Due to your interest, I endowed you with rulership. With rulership comes the responsibility to defend ones subjects. Ergo, the defense and maintenance of Rivenmaur are entirely your prerogative.

As for my family's taxation policies, I feel them to be just. Our subjects are all left with the means to cloth and feed themselves, along with a reasonable surplus.

Something that has concerned me as of late is your Order's association with one Lanthar Aironiquaise. The man has garnered a reputation as a murderer and a butcher. It is my suggestion that you distance your Order from his person.

Yours Truly,
Janette Ebonhart, Baroness of Andrune
"

No other Barons replied to Malithra. Perhaps they cared little for the plight of backwater villages... especially with Malarites abound? Or perhaps the scandal with Lanthar or the paladins' association with the criminal organization, "The Thundersoul Legion" have spun rumors of a deep corruption in the church.

Re: Meeting with the Dukes

After reading the letter and dealing with other issues, Malithra thought hard on her response to Janette Ebonhart.

“Janette Ebonhart, Baroness of Andrune”

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquiries. First I was confused on my actual place in Rivenmaur. I am clear on that situation now. Rivenmaur, I believe will grow to be strong and a great help to everyone that reside on the island. I have no clouded thoughts or feelings that it will be a struggle considering the many threats. However we hope that the Black Rider will be dealt with soon as the town’s biggest threat. Also as of resent the roads have become much safer to travel do to the lycin retreating off the main traveled roads.

I am sorry on the wording I used in concerns to the taxes. It was not meant to sound accusing. It was simply something that was brought to my attention and was concerned about it. I meant no disrespect to you or the other Barons and Baroness.

As for Lanthar, we are starting a full investigation into the matter. I am at this point not ready to abandon him. He is loyal and true and I find it distasteful that someone of his standing is so easily turned on over the word of a condemned thief. For now, I will have him stand down and take a smaller role in the church till this matter comes to a close, one way or the other.

In closing I am aware of rumors that have been going around. “The Thundersoul Legion” I have, but only recently heard of, and before then was unaware they even existed as the entity they are. I am sure you have heard about the struggle with the “Black Dragons”. I have met with “The Thundersoul Legion” General. However the situation was to gain intelligence on them seeing as I have little information on them. Currently we have two of there men in custody. Frank, one of the men, who is still being investigated, seems to have been hunting down the other man in question. The other is a madman who will be sent to Avendel shortly to undergo trial for the murders of several people who seem to have traveled from Avendel.

I hope this letter reaches you safe, and alleviates any animosity do to misunderstanding and hearsay.

Sincerely,
Malithra Silverblade Waters
