Also, by way of script, you can nerf the invincibility of high level characters specifically for events.

So, second suggestion for making DM life easier using a scripted solution: Event mode for characters.

This would be a DM tool that sets a var on characters which can change the effects items or abilities have for sake DM sanity.

Example A: In Event mode, player can only consume 3+ 1/2 character level healing potions per event.

Alternate A: In Event Mode, player can only consume 1 healing pot per in game turn.

(Pot use resets on death and raising, DM tool would have ability to reset character uses)

Example B: In Event mode, heal kits don't work in combat.

One new script, 20 lines of code change to existing scripts, and DMs no longer have to worry about balancing between players like me who have virtually endless healing yet potions can still have their usual effectiveness in the current dungeons.

Changes to healing pots themselves were suggested in another thread and I objected for two reasons:

* Personal experience - The most epic battles I've been in on this server, I went through 25-40k in healing supplies. I *like* prolonged, epic battles. So, event mob DPS would have to be scaled back (HPs can remain high though to prolong the fight).

* Some of the dungeons on this server are already all but impossible for non optimized builds, so healing is vital.

Event Mode would solve the second issue, as it wouldn't be always-on, and changes to DM spawns can solve the first.

Anyone low or high can buy healing, and people die with it to spare all the time. It just serves to create a larger gap between people with big numbers and small numbers and doesn't really address people getting big numbers for reasons we don't like.

Ten stone skin potions will get eaten. Armor that gives indefinite DR 10/+5 is Much more problematic. Its permanent factors no throngs of enemies can ever eat through that cause problems.

anyway, if there's no interest in a vault wipe it won't happen.

i think it might certainly clean up a lot of the problems we'd had to attend to more manually. as aesgereth pointed out there's a lot of old items floating around which just aren't suitable for the current game-world. unfortunately that does mean playing around with mechanics a lot.
