Re: No grinding...

I'd say 16 would be a bit better. it'd still keep level 9 spells out, but it would allow for that last little bit that most classes give before the haul to 20 (besides new spells anyway). pluuuuus it allows multiclassed and prestige classed folks a chance to customize their build a bit more. most PRCs can't even be started until around 6 or later, after all.

Whichever we go with is fine with me, but I just figured 16 might be a better rounded off number in terms of class ability.

Re: No grinding...

hmm I was leaning more towards haveing a lvl cap that is able to be removed with a widget or a dm command. That way established characters are still ok...and we can have faster xp because people are limited anyway. Restricting characters permanently to low lvls is kinda rough, Mages feel this the most as there spells per day and their spell casteing abilities are knocked right down, and with that said whats the point in making a palemaster, or a RDD, These prestige classes rely alot on being able to use up 10 lvls, and if the max is 15 well a lvl 5 wizard/sorcerer is going to be slapped around my most melee creatures/characters at that point. Another thing that comes to mind is playing races with an LA of +3 or +4...So now these characters get lvl 11/12 max? Now I can see someone thinking.."There should'nt be any custom races..." So then we get rid of the custom races and now we are a basic server with a lvl 15-16 cap max. I'm sorry but alot of servers I join is because of the diversity you are aloud with character creation, having a group of humans just doesn't really light up the imagination for me. I guess to get to the point; temporary lvl caps, higher xp from monsters, and maybe the DM's could start some of thier own factions players can join, so players levels can be monitered closely, and caps can be approved in an appropiate time frame...

Re: No grinding...

From my view. monks are ok at lvl 8+, mages get good enough at lvl 7-9. so lvl 15-16 is actually good. and at that level there is no huge differance between there powers in overal balance. heck even at lvl 20 i can see a fighter own a wizard and vice versa just as fast. My whyole issue is not about levels. I just like to feel that progression happens. Its more of the illusion that you feel that your character is gaining something. Rather it be power, a item, or even a quirk of personality! To me I do not really care about levels. And that should be the atitude we should all have.

True lvls are not everything in the game but on down times (which have been alot lately when I'm on) a person should be able to go solo and gain something...Items are always nice but not always available, and as far as being socially powerful most of the time you need a DM to run NPC's to back up anything you might want to do. I just feel for the most part that most of my characters are not advancing in any of these aspects, and I dont feel that a DM should be on 24/7 so that this is possible. I actually started this thread in hopes that the most simple solution for advancements via lvls could be better looked at, As far as items go that opens up a whole new subject as far as people complaining about overpowered characters.

Yeah. Although I do argee right now that xp is abit low. Bt what your speaking of is my little topic of progession. Anyway nwn should not seem like a second job lol but, Am not intirely sure on this topic. If it were up to me as a host id likely run things differntly. but am not and aside its not my place nor do I want it to be. But xp gain, I dont want to get too invold in this issue. It just means flame war to me, And yeah that means am backing down inless something outragious happens.

That can work as another aspect of progression, i.e. players rise through the ranks in a faction. Progression does not necessary mean level-based progression, it can be based on ranks and participation in plots.

I did recommend factions, but unfortunately the way things are going it would take time for players to set them up themselves. It's a shame factions don't exist as they could provide an alternative way of progression.
